Lost In Space Robot Actor Bob May Dies

Bob May with the robot from Lost In SpaceBob May, the man inside the robot on all 83 episodes of Lost In Space (1965-1968), died of congestive heart failure Sunday at the age of 69.

"He always said he got the job because he fit in the robot suit," said June Lockhart, who played family matriarch Maureen Robinson. "It was one of those wonderful Hollywood stories. He just happened to be on the studio lot when someone saw him and sent him to see Irwin Allen about the part. Allen said, 'If you can fit in the suit, you've got the job.'"

Producers wanted to allow fans to believe the robot was real so May received little attention during the shows run. Afterwards, he was a fan favorite at memorabilia and sci-fi shows. Even though it was announcer Dick Tufeld who proclaimed the iconic phrase "Danger, Will Robinson," Bob May learned all the lines so he could react to the actors and flail his arms appropriately.

As the grandson of vaudeville comedian Chic Johnson, May was surrounded by stage showmanship which transitioned to the early years of television. He went on to work as a stunt man on shows such as Cheyenne (1955), 77 Sunset Strip (1958) and Stagecoach (1966) before joining Lost In Space.

Matt Smith is Eleventh Doctor

Matt SmithThe BBC has announced, beginning in 2010, Matt Smith will replace David Tennant as the next Doctor on their cult time-travel series Doctor Who. In October, Tennant announced his intention to leave the show sparking the latest search for a new Time Lord. Tennant will appear in 4 hour long series this year before finally regenerating into Smith.

Jay Hunt, Controller, BBC ONE said "Matt Smith will be a mesmerising eleventh Time Lord, true to the spirit of the show. He is a worthy successor to David Tennant who has been utterly remarkable in the role and promises to continue to be in next year's four special episodes."

Billie Piper, who plays the Doctor's companion, seems to be Smith's strongest link to the show. His first television role came in The Ruby in the Smoke (2006) where he played Jim Taylor, assistant to Billie Piper's lead character Sally Lockhart. In 2007, he reclaimed the role in the follow-up The Shadow in the North and also appear in one episode of Piper's series Secret Diary of a Call Girl. However, he may be best know for his role as Danny Foster in Party Animals (2007).

Ghostbusters 3

Columbia Pictures has The Office (2005-2008) co-exec producers Lee Eisenburg and Gene Stupnitsky working on a script. The duo just wrote the Harold Ramis directed comedy Year One (2009). This working relationship should be good news considering Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd wrote the original Ghostbusters (1984). Ghostbusters was Columbia's highest grossing film until beaten by Men In Black.

Harold Ramis has confirmed progress in an email to the Chicago Tribune.

yes, columbia is developing a script for GB3 with my year one writing partners, gene stupnitsky and lee eisenberg. judd apatow is co-producing year one and has made several other films for sony, so of course the studio is hoping to tap into some of the same acting talent. aykroyd, ivan reitman and i are consulting at this point, and according to dan, bill murray is willing to be involved on some level. he did record his dialogue for the new ghostbusters video game, as did danny and i, and ernie hudson. the concept is that the old ghostbusters would appear in the film in some mentor capacity. not much else to say at this point. everyone is confident a decent script can be written and i guess we'll take it from there.
